New Year - New You.

It probably comes as no surprise, but getting fit, exercising more and losing weight are the top New Year’s Resolutions made by people around the world. You also won’t be shocked to find that the majority of resolutions are abandoned within the first 4 months. Why? Because it’s one thing to set a goal, but an entirely different kettle of fish sticking to it.

That’s why we want to give you the tools and knowledge to maintain your weight loss and fitness aims into 2019 and beyond. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Constantly revisit your goals and assess your progress

The determination you felt as the clock struck midnight on New Year’s Eve might fade over time, so it’s important you constantly track and assess your new year’s resolutions and ascertain their suitability. Life brings up all sorts of unexpected experiences, some of which might be a barrier to successful weight loss. If there’s something sitting in the way of meeting your goals, adjust your goals slightly – DON’T chuck in the towel!

  1. Break your goals down into mini-goals

A new year’s resolution can feel overwhelming. So, breaking it down into 3 or 4 mini goals can help you to take on the challenge in bitesize chunks. Think about it this way: If you were going to run a marathon, you wouldn’t rock up on the day and run the entire course without any practise! You would train yourself in advance and slowly build your endurance. You’d start by running a mile. Then you’d run five. And you’d continue to increase the distance until you’re marathon-ready. You should approach all of your goals in the same way. Don’t focus on the overall result. Instead, set yourself smaller challenges with a common direction.

  1. Make it fun

If working out, eating healthy foods and taking care of your body is boring, you won’t stick to it. That’s why it’s crucial you make your new fitness regime as fun as possible. Try some new activities like swimming, dancing, kick boxing, trampolining or climbing and discover your inner adventurer. Similarly, try cooking new recipes, get your friends over for a healthy dinner and find your freedom in food!

  1. Reward yourself

Have you ever stared into the mirror and psychologically punished yourself for looking less than your best? We bet you have! But when trying to stick to your health-related new year’s resolutions, this isn’t wise. Instead, reward yourself for any progress you make, even if it’s less than you had hoped for. Treat yourself to a special gift or experience every time you meet a mini goal. This might include a long soak in the tub, a special evening out with friends or a trip to the cinema.
